Book Reports
Reading is critical in the development of so many skills. A monthly reading log will be kept and students are expected to read at least 350 minutes each month. Logs will be turned in at the end of the month. Rewards are given for those students that achieve this goal.
Book Reports are a fun way to see how well a student understands and comprehends what they have read by allowing them to creatively retell the story in a project format. Three book reports will be assigned during the year, each with a different project and use of different book genres. Each project will be explained in detail the month that it is assigned. See the schedule below.
October-Mystery Book
Begin reading October 1, 2018. The report will be completely done in class and is due October 31, 2018.
Suggested Book List:

*A to Z Mysteries by Ron Roy
*The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Ann Warner
*Calendar Club Mysteries by Nancy Star
*Encyclopedia Brown by Donald J. Sobol
*Jigsaw Jones by James Preller
*Mystic Lighthouse Mysteries by Laura E. Williams
*Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew series (more challenging)
Dec/Jan-Classic Novel
We have a great selection in our own SJA library and the kids will have a chance to choose one during library time. Begin reading December 1, 2018. Both a drawing of their favorite scene with a paragraph description and a mobile or diorama (book box) will be due February 1, 2019. Please follow the directions carefully and do your best work. Each project is worth 50 points. Choose one that you would enjoy but also challenges you. This is an at-home project.
May-Free Choice
Begin reading May 1, 2019. An oral report will be given from the perspective of the main character. Must be presented in 1st person. Oral reports/iMovie presentations will be May 30-31, 2019. All parents are welcome to attend and also join us in our end of the year thank you celebration.
